Located at the southern end of the famous Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, the Forte de Copacabana is a must-visit destination for those looking to explore history and  enjoy a good cup of coffee with a view. Built in the early 20th century, this military fortress now serves as a cultural and touristic hotspot.

Inside the fortress, you'll find the Museu do Exército (Army Museum), which provides a deep dive into Brazil's military past. Exhibits include historical artifacts, weaponry, and interactive displays that showcase the fort’s strategic importance over the years. Walking through the museum, visitors can learn about the early days of Brazil’s coastal defense and the role the fort played in national history

One of the highlights of visiting the Forte de Copacabana is the opportunity to enjoy a delicious coffee, the fort is home to two popular cafés: Confeitaria Colombo and Café 18 do Forte.

  • Confeitaria Colombo is an extension of the historic downtown Rio café, famous for its elegant pastries, Brazilian sweets, and traditional afternoon teas.

  • Café 18 do Forte offers a more modern and relaxed vibe, with a great selection of sandwiches, snacks, and artisanal coffee. I had a piece of chocolate cake and an iced coffee and it was delicious.

Both of them offer breakfast and brunch. Sitting at one of their outdoor tables, you can enjoy your coffee while taking in the stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean and Sugarloaf Mountain.
