I recently visited Lima, Peru for work and only had one day off to explore the city. With limited time, I decided to focus on two of the most popular and tourist-friendly districts: the Historic Center and Miraflores.
I started my day in Lima’s Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with colonial architecture and rich history. Walking through Plaza Mayor (Plaza de Armas), I admired the stunning Government Palace, Lima Cathedral, and the Archbishop’s Palace.
I also took some time to walk around the historic district’s little shops. However, I wouldn't recommend buying anything from them, as the prices are extremely high and they tend to be tourist traps.
One of the highlights of my morning was visiting the Museo Convento San Francisco and its famous Catacombs. This 16th-century monastery features beautiful Baroque architecture. The entrance is paid, and unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside, which kind of kills the vibe a bit. Still, the place is stunning and definitely worth a visit. The Catacombs, once used as a burial site, hold thousands of human bones arranged in eerie patterns—definitely a unique experience. what to do in lima peru

After immersing myself in Lima’s colonial past, I headed to Miraflores, a district known for its modern vibe, coastal views, and great shopping.
I visited Larcomar, an open-air shopping mall built into the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The mall offers a variety of restaurants, cafés, and shops, all with an incredible view of the sea. I had lunch at a restaurant with a breathtaking ocean view, but unfortunately, the food wasn’t great, so I wont name it.
Next, I walked along the Miraflores coastline, taking in the fresh ocean breeze and watching surfers ride the waves at the beach below. The cliffs and parks along the coast provide stunning viewpoints, making it a perfect place to take pictures and enjoy Lima’s beautiful landscape.
If you only have one day to explore Lima, I’d recommend visiting both the Historic Center and Miraflores. The Historic Center lets you experience the country’s rich history, while Miraflores offers beautiful ocean views and a modern vibe.
